NEW this year to Our Lady of Lourdes School is the G.R.E.A.T. Program!
G.R.E.A.T. is an acronym for Gang Resistance Education And
Training and is a law enforcement officer-instructed violence prevention
curriculum that teaches students important skills to help them avoid gangs,
violence, drug abuse and crime. Its purpose is to help students develop beliefs
and practice behaviors that will help them avoid destructive habits including:
-
the truth
about gangs and violence;
-
the
student's roles in their family, school and community;
-
identifying
realistic goals and how to reach them;
-
how to
make good decisions;
-
how to
communicate well;
-
developing
empathy for others;
-
how to
deal with peer pressure;
-
how to
handle angry feelings;
-
how to
resolve conflicts.
Thank you to
Sgt. Donald Petry of the Milltown Police Department who's passion and
dedication to the program helped prepare our students for success in
school and in life!
