For their 100th day activity, fourth graders participated in an interactive math activity to review the concepts of mode, median and range. Students were divided into 5 groups. Each group was given 20 pieces of Starburst candy of different varieties (adding up to 100 candies total.) The first step was to count the amount of each color of candy. the groups determined the mode (the most frequently occurring color) and the median (the middle amount of candies.) To calculate the range, students subtracted the greatest number of candies minus the least number of candies.
